pathways of Christmas

posted by K Carter Steeves
I'm in a store waiting in a long line up .So long that Im standing beside the bins of clothing that are here and there around the place with clothes overflowing for the customers.Im chatting with the woman behind me about the time. She is on her lunch hour. Then out of now where these two women saunter past us and cut the corner very quickly.I remember seeing one of them earlier and thinking how lovely her long brown hair looked cascading down over her shoulders.I see then pull out a bag from one of their jackets and start stuffing it with clothes for about 30 seconds.Stuff Stuff Stuff!!!!!
Meanwhile my eyes shift back to the conversation Im having with this woman who is on her lunch hour. She is very patient about the lineup.Im not sure at first my mind takes about 2 minutes to digest the scene in front of me.
Yes you just saw a theft!!I felt the excitement in some way I felt the fear, then i felt level- headed and in mindfulness of how scared they must feel and I felt separated from them."Bless them" I thought for I was still becoming, somewhat insulted, as the emotions shifted I watched my mind do acrobatics, shame blame and the game. Then I thought she the thief she knows I know. This was most interesting,I met her eyes direct on.She made sure we looked at each other a few times. I saw in her eyes a quiet unconsciousness like she was blocked out.No sparkle was in her eyes."I said in my mind God Bless you girl you have an illness".
I still felt the insult for a bit more at one point I wanted to remove myself and go to the back of the store and quietly report the theft. Why? I asked myself. Why would you do this ? For the first time I searched my soul for an answer and found none.My mind circled again and said "This is her path leave her find her own way, pray for her". I then turned again to the woman behind me and we talked about what we were buying others for Christmas three days away, here in this secondhand store run by 21 churches in the area, we call our home, our community, our sanctuary.
Merry Christmas to everyone all over the world and God Bless us ALL .

Im with women, we are looking at a piece of rawhide, one of them gave to me
with writing on it.She figured out what it said."Had you not completed the drawing you would not have found your soul mate". The drawing was on another piece of rawhide.an old man on one side and an old woman (me)on the other. In this vision I knew this was me I was wearing the earnings I made of amethyst.
There was a beautiful bowl to hold something in and a ladle to top it up with.
In the bowl were ruby red berries.

Christmas Times

posted by K Carter Steeves

Christmas times gone by
The sled hooked to the car
The snow had fallin all night long
Grannie's house was far

We jumped up in  the seat and held on tight
Dad and Mom had us all wrapped in Buffalo
The mood was feeling just right

Off we went up the road
The snow oh how it did fly!
Santa could not even catch us
We had not his heavy load

Then we strode into granny's
Hot chocolate was given to all
We could not wait we sat anticipating
For the ride back home and the ball!!!lol

Merry Christmas     It was 1965 when we took this Christmas ride to Granny's house one Christmas eve.

To Breath is to Live

posted by K Carter Steeves

A Pipe Carrier myself three children four other women gather in a circle around the fire bowl.e are inside a Sweat Lodge. We smile, we sit in grateful silence, and reverence to all creation. The morning has just broken, the air clear, crisp and its essence fills me with vitality.Crawling into the circle we were laughing at the children's questions this is their first Sweat. We do not talk. The Pipe-Carrier asks the door keeper to wait there is going to be time for a lesson before he brings in the fire rocks.
"GREAT SPIRIT! is air.Her eyes are closed her voice is monotone. She looks deep with in as if her words are coming from another realm."GREAT SPIRIT is air given to earth given to us freely. We commune with Great Spirit with this Pipe. The bowl is woman the stem is man.Male and female is within all things.Sometimes visible sometimes not known. This tobacco is a gift to Mother Earth it is a gift to us given by Great Spirit freely. We  talk with Great Spirit as we pray and celebrate the Sweat leaves what is past behind as we smoke the pipe. Here we are one with Mother Earth and Great Spirit. All we have comes from Mother Earth we give thanks here today. As we smoke this pipe we are one in Spirit the smoke is passing this tobacco gift of prayer,so are our lives passing here in Spirit on our earth walk.We are given to this earth freely into this world of illusions then we pass away into the Great Mystery back to Great Spirit with our ancestors. This is all we have been, all we are and all we are becoming. The eight pathways of the medicine wheel.
The smoke is filled with our intentions, our prayers.Intentions is the lightening rod to Great Spirit. If your intentions are poor so are your prayers.Your life will speak for you.
The children were now silent, hanging their ears on her every word. She then asked the doorkeeper to bring in five Grandfather rocks from the fire.He slid the pitchfork out over the earth through the door setting each one in its proper place very gently and closed the door.
We sat in darkness, the Great Mrstery.

Eastern Star Way

After the Sweat Lodge I was ready to join into the dancing and drumming. My friend had sewed me a Grandmother Ribbon Dress.I am honoured in my heart each time I wear it,to respect my ancestors, the four directions and all those who love me.Sometimes it only takes one single event to awaken a truth that was there all the time. For most of us it is a gradual process that unfolds by flashes of understanding, temperance, clues and strength. That is how it has been for me.Here at my first POW WOW I saw and felt an ancient Spiritual Way of Life, not a sermon ,not an order of requirements, not a race for the pulpit, nor a picture of a Jewish sacrifice. This ancient tribal way em brassed me in vitality from Mother Earth and the Sacredness of dimensions in Father Sky.I felt the terror of Grandmother Moons Mercifulness and the energising   web of Grandfather Sun.My rebirth set in motion My ability to focus, gentle gathering information to make my own decisions, set my own visions own my feelings and harness the energy of my medicine seeing my efforts go out into the Universe and return to me.The living cycles of life came into being and I began to flourish in ways that made sense to me and made me very passionate about my life and still to this day.
Now I know what all those people were doing in the 70"s going off to India and it was right here in my own back yard.We are healed we are enlightened in Gods time not ours and for the times we live in .

Home

Home

Home is where music flows from the four corners of the earth
It is where windows filter sun all day
So the smile on your face can be seen down the hall or across the room

Home is where a loaf of bread is open to the hunger of all who enter
There there is always another pea for the pot for we work to make it so
Here laughter is water to the soul for we know we are home and here we are happy
